The Community Foundation — A Family Tradition

The Community Foundation — A Family Tradition

There are many strong traditions in the Jackson Family. One of them is a commitment to philanthropy for the betterment of Santa Barbara County.

Since 1927, generation after generation of Jacksons have helped to steward our county's welfare, from the building of important civic projects to addressing the County's most pressing problems, devoting time, intelligence and energy in addition to financial contributions.

Jackson family members have sat at the table since Major Max Fleishmann opened the Foundation doors in 1928. "Community foundations center around the word 'community' –the whole idea is to gain community consensus on a broad set of issues, where diverse and caring people can get involved and be part of a bigger network. Getting input from the community allows innovative solutions while creating an infrastructure that provides sustainability.

The concept of community investment is truly embodied in the Foundation, with a broad view to create legacies that last well beyond you. The Santa Barbara Foundation is also instrumental in educating the next generation of leaders. What will become of the community when we are gone? Involvement and investment in a community foundation makes sense – it is a central backbone for organizations that provide investments, on every level, into the future sustainability of this great county.

Looking back at the opportunities that my great Grandfather saw – and then my Grandfather – and now my father – it is my privilege to continue this family tradition."
